Larry Shattuck, founder of Larry Shattuck Design Associates, began his design career when recruited during his final year at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1977 by the Interior design director of Bloomingdale’s Flagship store in Manhattan as a staff Designer. After graduating Cum Laude from FIT, where he was awarded full scholarship from the State University of New York’s Design department, Mr. Shattuck spent the summer in Europe on a study tour of museums and historical homes. From Bloomingdale’s Mr. Shattuck was hired by Danker and Sellew, Inc. at the World Trade Center in New York City, as Director of space planning and interoffice landscaping. In 1980, he became a founding partner and president of Shattuck Blair Design Associates, Inc.
Venturing out on his own in 1990, Mr. Shattuck along with his former Bloomingdale’s associate, designed and opened a retail lifestyle establishment featuring gourmet foods, antiques and accessories for the home and garden. While having residences and continuing design work in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Dallas, Mr. Shattuck relocated to Atlanta in 1994 where he launched his present design firm. In 2007 Mr. Shattuck returned to New York City and established it as his home base while acting as Consulting Design Director for a highly respected Manhattan Interior Design Firm.
In addition to his residential design work, Mr. Shattuck continues to be involved in the design and installation of numerous commercial projects.

D E S I G N P H I L O S O P H Y
Because I have worked with clients from the New York metropolitan area to Cape Cod, northern and southern California, the southern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Texas, I have gained an exceptional view of regional esthetics, not to mention a multiplicity of personalities. While collaborating with architects, craftsmen and general building contractors, I have found that my most important job is to guide and educate my clients about what to bring to the project and what to leave behind.
This process of working together allows us to utilize my designer’s insight while reflecting my client’s style and taste, culminating in a beautiful end result. Designing a home or an office is what I do best. Within that framework comes my expertise in space planning, scale, lighting, furniture, fabrics and color. Where we live our lives should reflect our own style, be our refuge, and that refuge should be an oasis for our peace of mind.
